David William Brooks

Born: September 11, 1901, Franklin County, Georgia

Died: August 5, 1999

Occupation: A member of the University of Georgia Agronomy faculty in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences; established one of the nation's largest farm cooperatives; serves as Chairman of the Board for Gold Kist, Inc., Cotton States Mutual Insurance Company and Cotton States Life & Health Insurance Company.

Accomplishments: Mr. Brooks has served as advisor on agriculture and economics to seven presidents and on the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Agribusiness Industry Advisory Committee. In 1954 he was a delegate to the American Assembly, which proposed changes in the United Nations Charter. He served as director of the Foundation for American Agriculture; Agricultural Missions, Inc., New York; and the National Council of Farmer Cooperative; and chairman of the board of Farmers Chemical Association in Chattanooga, Tennessee. His dream of a world without hunger and at peace inspired him to create Gold Kist, one of the top American farm cooperatives.
