William H. Smith, Jr.

Born: 1915, Bulloch County, Georgia

Died: 1974

Occupation: County extension agent in Toombs County; farmer.

Accomplishments: Mr. Smith used the latest techniques on his farm. His innovations in the mechanics of farming and peanut harvesting are in use on harvesting equipment. He served as president of the Bulloch County Farm Bureau and the University of Georgia Ag Alumni Association; president and director of Dixie Production Credit Association; director of the Georgia-Florida-Alabama Peanut Association, Georgia Pecan Growers Association, Cotton States Insurance Companies, Gold Kist Inc.; and district director of the Georgia Farm Bureau. He was named Master Farmer by Progressive Farmer magazine and Man of the Year by the Bulloch County Soil Conservation Service and the Rotary Club. He served on the Advisory Committee of the UGA Cooperative Extension Service.
